  8. a passive Fiber Optic Ethernet network segment. CodeNet fiber optic Ethernet is
  9. more robust and reliable than coax or twisted-pair solutions. They are
  10. completely immune to electromagnetic noise types and no form of cable damage,
  11. like short circuits, ground faults, reflections, or impedance mismatches, can
  12. disable the network. Workstations can be up to 1600 meters apart using a
  13. low-cost CodeStar passive hub. CodeNet adapters can be used as a fiber-optic
  14. backbone to link workstations and servers on multiple floors or between
  15. buildings in a campus

  18. buffer memory architecture, and its 8-bit/16-bit bus interface. The CodeNet
